Understanding our Workplace
ACR takes pride in providing exceptional care for people with disabilities. Please read through the following workplace requirements before moving on to the remainder of the application.
You are applying for a position that includes providing physical, hands-on personal care for men and women with disabilities in a group home setting. This includes some household basics like: laundry & cleaning; cooking & meal preparation, including willingness to cook meat or other menu items; as well as personal care such as: assistance with transfers, repositioning, mobility; adult diapering, grooming, assisting with bathing, etc. Some of our residents use g-tubes or other medical equipment. The level of need varies per home, but ACR does not serve individuals who are completely independent. Paid training will be provided and no experience is required.*

ACR Provides Care 24/7 -- Staff Must Work a Fair Share of Weekends and Holidays The residents of ACR are people with disabilities who need assistance, whether physical, emotional, or social, and they need staff to support them every day. Due to the nature of the work, all DCPs and DCAs must share in the responsibility of providing care for the people we support during weekends, holidays, spring break, and other frequently sought after vacation times. Being present may seem at first a sacrifice, but many ACR staff have commented that their most memorable times have often been those spent making someone else’s holiday or weekend or Sunday morning more meaningful. Being a direct care staff makes you a part of the ACR team of people who help our residents make the most of every day, including weekends and holidays.*

Tobacco-Free Policy - ACR Homes is smoke-free, vape-free, and tobacco-free. This means smoking, e-cigarettes, or any use of tobacco or vaping is prohibited while on duty or on Company premises, or while operating any Company vehicle or equipment.*

Drug and Alcohol Policy - All employees must be free from the abuse of prescription medications or being in any manner under the influence of a chemical that impairs their ability to provide services or care. Employees who are taking medication that may impair their ability to provide care or services while working must speak to their Program Director. The consumption of alcohol or cannabis or cannabis-related products is prohibited while directly responsible for persons receiving services, or in our vehicles, machinery, or equipment (owned or leased). Being under the influence of a controlled substance identified under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 152, or alcohol, or cannabis, or illegal drugs in any manner that impairs or could impair an employee’s ability to provide care or services to persons receiving services is prohibited. The use, sale, manufacture, distribution, or possession of illegal drugs while providing care or to persons receiving services, or on our property, or in our vehicles, machinery, or equipment (owned or leased), is prohibited.*

Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy - As part of the Company’s commitment to an alcohol- , cannabis-, and drug-free workplace and in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the people we support, ACR has adopted a Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy. Under this policy, ACR may randomly require that applicants and employees submit to drug or alcohol testing in accordance with applicable law.*

Requirements for Employment by ACR Homes
Required Documents: Upon hire, you will need to provide two original identification documents to satisfy requirements of the I-9 form as well as proof of automobile insurance (if applicable). A drivers license is a requirement for employees 18+ and must be shown. All documents need to be presented to an ACR HR office staff member before starting employment.

Criminal Background Check: Upon hire, adult foster care licensing rules, as described in Minnesota Rules 9555.6125, require that employees undergo a criminal background check. Additionally, operators, caregivers, and household members must agree to disclose their conviction and criminal history information and may not have a disqualification under Minnesota Statues, section 245C.15. Convictions of offenses such as homicide, crimes against a person, crimes of compulsion, sex crimes, incest, theft and burglary, arson or obscene phone calls will typically disqualify someone from employment at ACR Homes due to licensure requirements.

ACR staff often transport residents to appointments and outings via personal and company vehicles. Consequently, ACR runs motor vehicle reports on all licensed drivers during employment orientation.
