LPN Friends: Are You Ready For A Positive Change?

LPN Jobs burnsville

Working in the healthcare industry doesn't have to come with burnout, demanding shifts, and understaffing. At ACR Homes, we've reimagined what care can look like. With 40+ homes spanning the Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota, small staff to resident ratios, and person centered care, there's not just room for our residents to find joy. LPN's at ACR Homes have found their passion for healthcare again.

"When I first heard about ACR, I was already working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a healthcare facility. Like many LPNs, I was used to a demanding pace, heavy patient loads, impersonal care, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with doing your best in an overloaded system. I didn't hate my job, but I was burning out. And fast. I kept thinking, there has to be a better way of doing things.

I never thought I would make a big life change, but I decided to switch to ACR Homes, and I just wish I had done it sooner." Here's why.

2. You're More Than "Just An Employee" at ACR

At ACR, employees are treated as a whole person - A professional, for sure. A caregiver, definitely. A friend and co-worker, you bet. It's also understood that you have commitments and relationships out of work too. Not only that, but employee opinions and input are valued through "open sourcing". A program where employees are asked and encouraged to provide constructive feedback via email, that's not only reviewed and implemented seasonally, but is rewarded through gift card drawings. Employees share the sentiment of feeling appreciated by leadership, whether it be from a special note left by a supervisor, a care package, a shower hosted in your honor, or during our annual employee appreciation event. Employees and their families come together to enjoy an evening of free food trucks, a llama petting zoo, face painting, chair massages, bounce houses, live music, and crafts.

3. ACR Homes Has Individualized Care That Feels Personal Again

A refreshing change of pace is found at ACR where we break the mold of rushed, assembly-line type care. ACR Homes has comfortable homes located in neighborhoods where (typically) 4 adults with disabilities live and receive care. The LPN to resident ratios are small, often times 1:2 and even more often 1:1. You'll have the time to slow down and actually get to know the people you care for. There's time to assist residents with their routines and medical needs, but to also to build relationships, enjoy activities together, and get to know the beautiful personalities of the people you're providing care for. You'll feel like you're actually impacting someone's life rather than checking a task off of a to-do list.

4. Find Support at ACR

Although Licensed Practical Nurses and Direct Care Professionals are the ones typically providing for the daily cares of our residents with disabilities, there's a system of support so you don't feel like you're on an island. Supervisors live on site at the homes, even with their family members and pets when applicable. And there's a Registered Nurse (RN) on-call 24 hours a day to support medical needs and questions. This ensures both the residents and employees have access to support when they need it. Of course the Supervisors and RNs are just a phone call or text away, but you can also interact with them as they come and go from the house, stop on the program floor to say hello, work direct care, and interact during staff meetings.

5. There's Room To Grow

If you're a lifelong learner and advance your education and credentials, more opportunities are available for you. Licensed Practical Nurses can move into Registered Nurse Case Manager positions when they finish more schooling and obtain new nursing licenses. You can also shift gears all together and move into a supervisory role, building upon the administrative skills you gained as an LPN.

6. ACR Homes Is An Award Winning Workplace

For over 10 years, ACR Homes has maintained a spot as a top 25 large workplace in Minnesota through the Star Tribune Top Workplace Contest. Hundreds of employers are nominated each year, employees are surveyed about job satisfaction, culture, leadership, and impact, resulting in a list comprising the best companies to work for each year.

  • In 2014 and 2016, ACR Homes won the #1 workplace award
  • ACR Homes is a 3x the winner of a special award for leadership
  • ACR Homes is a 2x winner of a meaningful work award
  • ACR Homes is consistently voted the #1 healthcare employer (new again in 2025)
  • In 2025, we received special awards for purpose & values, innovation, and leadership

Thinking About Making A Change?

"If you're an LPN wondering if there's something better out there - there is. Not only will you begin to value your role as a nurse again, but you'll feel appreciated, seen, valued, and fulfilled. And yes, the work is still work, but at ACR Homes, it feels worth the time and commitment. If you're on the fence, ACR might just be the fresh start you didn't even know you needed." - LPN at ACR Homes
